An accident happened on April 23 around 7am on the Chiredzi-Roy road, claiming the life of one passenger and leaving 17 others injured.
ZRP Masvingo Province Deputy Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu informed the press that the incident involved a white Mazda T35 truck driven by Last Chirambamuriwo (33) of Lion Drive in Chiredzi, which was carrying 30 passengers.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver lost control of the vehicle at the 84km peg while navigating a steep slope.
Chirambamuriwo failed to engage the correct gear, causing it to roll backwards, overturn twice, and finally land on its left side.
Tragically, Rutendo Gonese (39) from Village 9, Mayor in Chiredzi, sustained fatal injuries, including a deep cut to the head, and died at the scene.
Her body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital Mortuary.
The 17 injured passengers were rushed to Chiredzi General Hospital for medical attention.
