MASVINGO CITY-An ex-Doczine Petroleum employee is suspected to have committed suicide by drinking poison after he was found dead in his dining room while sitting on a sofa last Monday, The Midweek Watch can reveal.

Emmanuel Munamati (28) of Chimbwido Street from Mucheke in Sisk area was found dead by his landlord, Tendai Wezvo, who was coming from a beer drinking spree and routinely checking his doors for security reasons and found the deceased’s door not locked at around 1am.

Masvingo province Police, Community Relations and Liaison Officer, Inspector Kudakwashe confirmed the matter to The Midweek Watch and said a poisonous substance was found by the side of Munamati’s body on the sofa.

Dhewa said the Police are still investigating the matter to find out if there is a link between the poisonous bottle and the death of the ex Doczine employee.

According to his former workmates Munamati was facing quite a number of social problems in his life and that could have led to him committing suicide.

“Munamati was given a lump some of US$5 000 after leaving employment at Diczine Petroleum and he went on to buy a car unaware that it was completely a non runner and that stressed him a lot.

“He had so many mounting debts that he was failing to service and his wife had deserted him to Bulawayo and we strongly suspect that could have forced him to take his own life,” said a close former workmate who preferred not to be named as she was not authorized to speak on the matter.

Doczine Petroleum, where he used to work met most of the funeral expenses as the relatives are said to have approached his former employer to assist as there was no coffin to bury the deceased in.

Masvingo Provincial Hospital had also advised the family to quickly bury the deceased as there was no electricity at the mortuary and the body was likely to go bad.
