MASVINGO-A transformative Alumni Masterclass workshop was held in Masvingo, bringing together emerging business leaders and entrepreneurs for a high-impact learning experience aimed at strengthening Zimbabwe’s export capacity.
The three-day workshop from 27 to 29 April 2026, was held at the elegant Urban Lifestyle Hotel, providing a dynamic setting for knowledge exchange, innovation, and professional growth.
Consultant Munyaradzi Shadaya facilitated the workshop in collaboration with ZimTrade.
Shadaya focused on equipping alumni participants with critical tools needed to navigate the increasingly competitive global market. Among the key topics being covered are export market expansion strategies, which explore how local businesses can identify and penetrate new international markets.
Among other things he touched on trade policies and compliance helping participants understand the regulatory frameworks that govern international trade, an area often cited as a barrier for small and medium enterprises seeking to export.
He also emphasised on sustainable and ethical trade practices, highlighting the growing importance of environmentally conscious and socially responsible business operations in global markets.
Participants were encouraged to align their businesses with international sustainability standards to enhance competitiveness.
Financial strategies for export growth have emerged as a central theme of the workshop, with detailed discussions on how businesses can structure their finances to support scaling into export markets. This includes practical guidance on accessing funding and managing financial risks associated with cross-border trade.
One of the standout sessions has been on delivering effective funding pitches, where participants were trained on how to present compelling business cases to potential investors and financial institutions. The session was designed to build confidence and improve communication skills among entrepreneurs.
Recognising the growing role of technology, the workshop also had a session on digital marketing for export success. These discussions were meant to equip participants with modern tools to position their products on global platforms and reach wider audiences.
The masterclass was also introduced to the adoption of artificial intelligence in business operations. The session tackled how AI can be leveraged to improve efficiency, decision-making, and overall competitiveness in the export sector.
Participants expressed enthusiasm about the depth and relevance of the content, noting that the workshop is not only informative but also highly practical. Many have highlighted the opportunity to network with like-minded professionals as an added benefit.
Speaking during one of the sessions, Shadaya emphasized the importance of preparedness and adaptability in today’s global trade environment.
“As Zimbabwean businesses, we must position ourselves strategically to take advantage of export opportunities by embracing innovation, compliance, and sustainable practices,” he said.
