CHIREDZI-The Zimbabwe Parents of Handicapped Children Association (ZPHCA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare successfully established a disabled stimulation class at Tshovani Primary set to welcome learners when schools open for third term.

This stimulation class is designed to cater for children of all disabled learners including those bedridden ensuring they receive their rightful education. Teachers will be supported by parents taking turns to care for the students as they will provide personalized attention. The class is expected to have 7-15 students.
ZPHCA field officer, Deborah Ncube highlighted the organization’s mission to identify and support parents of children with disabilities who are not in school.
In collaboration with the Ministry they have made Tshovani Primary School their first school in Chiredzi to adopt the initiative, with Unicef funding the initiative the program will be a great success.
“We are committed to inclusivity, no child will be turned away. We will assess their needs according to their disability range ensuring each child receives the support they require,” said Ncube.
Community Childcare Worker (CCW) Magret Chingini revealed that previously parents had to leave their bedridden children locked at home while they went to fend for their families, but now with the stimulation class parents can work with peace of mind knowing their children are receiving education and care.
“This is a blessing and we urge all parents to embrace this opportunity and send their children to school. Every child deserves this privilege,” said Chingini.
Chiredzi now has two schools enrolling disabled children following Tshovani Primary School’s stimulation class’ introduction. However, Chiredzi Primary School which also enrolls disabled students currently screens applicants due to limited resources.
