Driver disappears after fatally hitting a man in Charumbira Street

MASVINGO-A man has been found dead in what is suspected to be a hit and run along Charumbira Street near Craft Centre in Masvingo City.

The incident happened last Sunday according to Masvingo Province Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.

Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that on July 23 at around 2am an ambulance driver for Masvingo Provincial Hospital, Jefias Moto was driving along Charumbira street on his way to work when he came across a body of a man in the middle of the road and reported to Masvingo traffic police.

Traffic police attended to the scene with head injuries and fresh bruises all over the body as it was dragged for about 10 meters from the accident.

“We confirmed the case of this person who was hit by an unknown vehicle and left for dead, our investigations are still going on as we keep searching for the suspect who is on the run, whom we will charge with one count of culpable homicide and failure to stop after an accident,” said Dehwa.

The body was taken for postmortem at Masvingo Provincial Hospital.
