Don’t cry over FIFA ban, focus on football education-ZIFA’s Grinder
EDWIN MOYO
Gweru- Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has urged local coaches to prioritize education than focusing on the FIFA sanctions which are beyond their purview.
ZIFA coaching instructor, Benedict Grinder Moyo said that the ban was another thing on the operations of the association but had no effect in the administrative side and training of coaches.
Speaking last week during an interview at the end of the Level 2 coaching clinic in Gweru, Grinder said people were getting reluctant in acquiring football knowledge as they concentrate on the ban that was imposed on the nation by FIFA last year.
“In Midlands we have been running these coaching clinics and this is one of the most successful coaching clinics we have held because we had a bigger class which had about 26 participants.
“In Midlands our numbers had been going down but we continue to urge people to come and enroll because football education is important for one to be able to be a good and modern football coach. This is also another opportunity to then help our coaches advance and acquire CAF C, B and A as they progress,” he added.
Moyo further highlighted that, football had become more scientific as compared to the previous years.
A participant and former football player, Jacob Mzokomba said there was need for trained players to go to the grassroots to develop the game.
“As one of the coaches who benefitted from last week’s course I learnt a lot from the instructors, as you are a former footballer and we were used more to field technics than coaching side so blending the two is very important as we are now learning the scientific side of the game.
“Looking at football in Zimbabwe there is need to be passionate about grooming young talent. We have a lot of young talent which needs attention at the grassroots level,” he added.
