The Presidential Emergency Scheme, which is offering free basic first aid training to residents will be rolled out in Chivi where legislators and businesspeople are expected to attend.

Participants receiving certificates from a previous Discovery Ambulances training.

The scheme, being run by Discovery Ambulance Services, seeks to equip the general populace with life-saving skills in the event of an emergency.

Previously, the program targeted the disabled, women groups and youths in Bulawayo and Chipinge but has been opened up for everyone.

Discovery Ambulance Services founder David Munowenyu said an emergency can occur to anyone regardless of their social status.

“We are elated to have Members of Parliament and businesspeople expressing interest to attend our course because we have said that these courses are for everyone. You never know, there could be an emergency in Parliament and a Member of Parliament can save a life.

“The idea is to equip people in all corners of the country with life-saving skills so that if there is an emergency in Chivi there will be many first responders. Remember Chivi is located along the busy Beitbridge-Harare and Beitbridge-Gweru highways which have a high prevalence of road traffic accidents. It is therefore prudent that communities in such areas have first aid training so that they can help in the event of an emergency,” said Munowenyu.

Munowenyu added that Discovery Ambulance Services was following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of leaving no one, and no place behind.

“As Discovery Ambulance Services our motto is ‘every life matters, every second counts’, so training communities will help us get to an emergency point within the golden hour.”
