Disaster as 3 minors drown in separate incidents

PENHALONGA-The small community of Penhalonga was plunged into mourning as bodies of two miners were found floating in a disused open cast mine in Zengeni Village.

Manicaland Province Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the sad development that happened yesterday at around 4pm.

Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that Blessing Sikudza(9) and Danai Zingune went to an open cast disused mine and jumped in with the intention to swim, unfortunately they drowned.

Later in the day, Thomas Dzeka, uncle to one of the deceased went searching for his niece Danai and he found his lifeless body floating in the open cast mine.

The matter was reported at Penhalonga police station and the bodies were taken to Victoria Chitepo Hospital for postmortem.

On the same day during midday, another minor Paulos Mabika (10) drowned in Dakate Village in Ndunduma Village, Middle Sabi.

It is alleged that, the deceased together with her 13 year old friend went to the river to do laundry. Upon arrival the two decided to swim and Paulos drowned.

Tinashe Mabika rushed to the village and informed her father who teamed up with other villagers in search of Paulos and they found her body submerged under water.

They retrieved the body and reported the matter to Chibuwe Police who attended the scene.

The police are appealing to the public and parents not to let kids to go swimming or do laundry unsupervised.
