Follow up: Smart Bus passengers lose R140 160, US$8 500 to robbers

MASVINGO – Police in Mwenezi are investigating a case of armed robbery that occurred in T&B Smart Express bus at the 126km peg along Mutare-Beitbridge road on 4 October, 2023.

ZRP Masvingo Province deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Lorine Chanakira Ndhlovu confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch.

Ndhlovu said that the robbers had boarded the cross border bus as ordinary passengers to Beitbridge.

One of the robbers is said to have to brought out a piston and ordered the bus driver to stop the bus and after that he fired three shots in the bus which damaged the bus front camera.

The bus driver was slapped and hit once and they took R6 000 from his pockets.

The other two robbers proceeded to search the rest of the passengers, the conductor to make it a total of 15 people who were robbed and they stole a total of R140 160 and US$8 500 including handbags and cell phones.

After the act they disappeared into dark and a report was made at Mwenezi ZRP.

The suspects are still at large.
