Cop murdered for cellphone

A cop, Elisha Munengerwa based in Chegutu who once worked in Masvingo has been killed in cold blood by robbers who stole his cellphone and disappeared.

His wife went on to post on his facebook page confirming the sad news with tens of friends expressing shock and grief on social media.

“Friends and family I’m posting to inform you that Elisha Luck Munengerwa passed on, on 3rd of February 2024.

“He was murdered and left for dead with his cell phone taken and no one was brave enough to come out of their homes and help him.

“As his wife I’m very bewildered that humanity is  now a thing of the past and would like to thank the one who got him help eventually even though it was too late.

Rest in peace beloved husband,” reads the message on his facebook page.

He was laid to rest on Tuesday in Chegutu, his home area.

The suspects has since been accounted for according to a police memo in the hands of The Midweek Watch.

“ZRP reports that, Tinotenda Tatenda Nyika (20) was arrested in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Westen Shopping Centre, Chegutu on 03/02/24 in which a police officer, Elisha Munengerwa (35) died.

 “The suspect allegedly stabbed the victim with a home-made knife once on the lower left arm before stealing a Techno Camon cellphone and fled from the scene.

“The victim succumbed to the stab wound. On 06/02/24, detectives from CID Chegutu acted on received information and recovered the stolen cellphone from a local person which led to the arrest of the suspect,”.
