CHIVI-Norman Gwanangara (35) of Headman Madzivire, Chivi allegedly beat and stoned his 70-year-old father to death after accusing him of bewitching him.
Gwanangara allegedly attacked his father, Funny Gwanangara, on September 3 at around 6.50pm following a dispute over witchcraft allegations.
Masvingo acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Itayi Zivhave confirmed the incident.
“On September 3 at around 6:50pm, the accused went to the complainant over unresolved family issues, alleging that his father was bewitching him. They started disagreeing, and the accused assaulted his father several times with bare hands all over the body,” said Assistant Inspector Zivhave.
Police alleged that Norman later struck his father on the head with a suspected okapi before sitting on his chest and repeatedly hitting him on the head with stones.
Funny sustained a deep cut on the chin and injuries to the occipital region and forehead.
The matter was reported at Ngundu Police Station who attended the scene and arresting the suspect.
Funny was initially taken to Ngundu Clinic before being transferred to Chivi District Hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition.
He was later transferred to Masvingo General Hospital on September 5 for specialised treatment but died the same day.
Norman is now facing a murder charge.
