Chivi man beats wife to death

MASVINGOTechu Hanife(29) of Nyahonde resettlement area under Chief Shindi, in Chivi has been arrested on murder charges after he assaulted his two wives leading to the death of the other a few days later.

Masvingo police provincial spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the sad development to The Midweek Watch.

Dhewa said on 28 June at around 7am the accused’s wives Eve Mhurai(21) and Sandra Mapindukwa(16) went to fetch water at a nearby river and they are said to have come back home late which led to the accused to assault the two with a switch all over their bodies.

Mapindukwa and Mhurai ran away and sought refugee from neighbours and due to the assault they sustained bruises all over their bodies, but they did not report the matter to the police.

Since the day they were assaulted Mapindukwa did not recover from the wounds while at home and her condition worsened and she informed her elder sister Chenai Mupindukwa(33).

The deceased did not tell her sister the cause of her predicament until the elder wife disclosed that they were assaulted and ever since she did not recover.

On 8 July, 2023 her condition further deteriorated and she died at home on the same day.

The matter was then reported the following day at Nyahombe Police Base in Chivi.

The police came and inspected and noticed the bruises which were all over the deceased’s body which led to the arrest of Hanife and taken to Ngundu Police Station while the body was taken to Mwenezi Rural District mortuary awaiting to be taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for further postmortem as the investigations are still underway.
