Chivi – In a bid to revolutionize agriculture in the region, Chivi North MP Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa recently convened a crucial meeting with local farmers to discuss the transformative power of farming as a business.

The gathering at Mhandamabwe Vocational Training Centre was attended by representatives from various government departments, aimed to shift the mindset of farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the 11 wards and 53 registered gardens in Chivi North.

Mukungunugwa emphasized the need for farmers to consider farming as a business that will transform their lives.

“This approach would ensure food security, generate income, and stimulate economic growth, aligning with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, I would like to encourage farmers who have gardens to utilize the land they have to do business, grab whatever near you to give you money and transform your lives,” said Mukungunugwa.

Farmers welcomed the initiative, expressing enthusiasm for the new farming ideas that would help them overcome the challenges posed by the El Nino-induced drought.

Gogo Portia Mugari, expressed her gratitude for the initiative being spearheaded by their MP as it is set to change their way of life in a positive way.

“Had it not been for the MP we would have literally done the proverbial Chivi woman who cooked stones and drank the soup, fortunately our MP has vision and cares for the villagers,” said Gogo Mugari.

Tadiwanashe Moyo a ward 4 farmer welcomed the initiative saying drought will not affect them much this season as they now have a fall back position.

“We are excited to adopt these modern farming methods. With farming now considered a business, we will be able to fight droughts and improve our livelihoods, We have been doing things the same way for too long, it is  time we embrace change and make farming a sustainable business,” said Moyo.

With the guidance of experts from Agritex and other ministries, Chivi North farmers are poised to embrace farming as a business, ensuring food security and economic growth towards Vision 2030.

The meeting demonstrated the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices, added Mukungunugwa.
