CHIKOMBA—Godknows Dembure, a teacher at Makumimavi Primary School has scooped the Integrity Icon award at this year’s Integrity Icon Summit and Awards ceremony at Cresta Lodge in Harare on 24 February this year.
Dembure was voted Integrity Icon for Exemplary Service and Ethical Leadership in the Public Sector category beating many other contestants to land the coveted award.
Dembure is the founder of a Queens of Chivhu Chess Club which has so far travelled and participated in several prestigious local and international tournaments. The club won the Zimbabwe national championships in 2018 but could not attend the Africa tournament in Egypt due to financial constraints.
Speaking to The Midweek Watch, Dembure expressed his gratitude to his superiors in the education sector and the people of Chikomba District for voting him to win the award.
“I want to express my gratitude to my superiors in the education sector who have been by my side since day one. The have always supported me and helped me with advice.
“I also want to express my gratitude to the people of Chikomba who voted for me and special thanks goes to Chief Chivese and a police officer Ndodana Ndlovhu, they helped me immensely and the club as well,” said Dembure.
The Integrity Icon Awards are held annually by the Accountability Lab to honour honest government officials who are doing things beyond their expected duties with the aim of inspiring a new generation to be more effective public servants.
