Masvingo – The National AIDS Council (NAC) has released the latest HIV statistics for Masvingo Province showing Chiredzi District leading with the highest number of people living with HIV (PLHIV) a trend attributed to its large population size.

NAC Masvingo Province Acting Manager, Munorweyi Munyikwa presented the data during the editors sensitization on violence against women, HIV, and gender-responsive reporting (SASA! Approach) workshop held at Mutirikwi Lodges and Resorts on Monday and Tuesday.
Munyikwa said Chiredzi recorded 21,721 PLHIV, followed by Masvingo District with 18, 938 followed by Gutu District with 10,230.
Other districts recorded the following figures, Chivi (9,046), Bikita (9,007), Mwenezi (8,520) and Zaka (7,537), bringing the provincial total to 140,419 people living with HIV.
The workshop was part of capacitating senior journalists on gender-sensitive and HIV-responsive reporting as part of efforts to combat gender-based violence and HIV in the province.
