CHIRERZI- Chiredzi community is in shock and mourning following a tragic murder incident that occurred on 4 August 2025, at Farai Bar in Chiredzi.
Cornelius Garawaziva (20) lost his life in a violent confrontation with Walter Checha (34) over alleged accusations of Garawaziva being in love with Checha’s ex-wife, Vimbai Mwaizuya.
According to Masvingo Provincial Police Spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) lnspector Kudakwashe Dhewa the incident happened at around 9:30 pm when Garawaziva approached Mwaizuya to purchase snooker tokens.
Checha who had a history of violent behavior and harassing male patrons who befriended his ex-wife confronted Garawaziva accusing him of being involved with Mwaizuya.
Despite Garawaziva’s denial Checha pushed him to a bench and stabbed him once on the left side of the chest with a sharp object and Garawaziva died on the spot.
The police were notified at around 11:55 pm leading to the arrest of Checha.
Inspector Dhewa urged the public to avoid using violence to resolve disputes especially under the influence of alcohol.
