CHIREDZI- Chiredzi Rural District Council (RDC) on Saturday took delivery of 42 motorbikes for its councillors, a fire tender, tipper truck, grader, and drilling rig to enhance service delivery.

The handover ceremony was held at Chiredzi RDC offices.
The event was graced by the Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira, who was joined by Minister of Local Government and Public Works Daniel Garwe as the guest of honor.
Minister Garwe applauded the council for prioritizing service delivery, noting that the new equipment would improve roads, reduce veld fires, and enable councillors to respond quickly to community needs.
“Transport problems for our councillors have been alleviated and these trucks will ensure effective service delivery to the community, from roads to boreholes being drilled,” said Garwe.
RDC Chairman Aspect Mashingaidze expressed his gratitude highlighting the challenges faced by councillors who walk long distances of up to 90 km to serve their communities.

“As the council continues to work towards improving the lives of its residents this investment in equipment and transportation is a major step forward. With the council’s commitment to service delivery and the support of the government, the community can look forward to better roads, improved emergency services and more effective representation from their councillors” said Mashingaidze.
The RDC Chairman received a council issued vehicle.
The ceremony also honored four Zanu PF councillors Keuswell Muvengi, Yeukai Matsaure, Alfred Mazombwe and Leonard Makondo with Alderman status. The councillors had dedicated over 15 years of service to the council, having joined in 2008.
