MILLICENT HUNGWE
Ciphas Chichevo (36) from Village 2 under Chief Neromwe drowned in Mushavhukwi River, Bangala, Triangle on May 25th at around 3 pm.
Chichevo had gone to the garden on the shores of the river with his wife, Tafadzwa Nyeredzi, (31), according to ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.
While his wife remained watering the garden, Chichevo decided to take a bath in the river.
He did not return after a long time, prompting his wife to search for him, her worst fears were confirmed when she found his lifeless body floating in a nearby pool.
The incident was immediately reported to the Triangle Police Station, and the authorities swung into action.
Chichevo’s body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Inspector Dhewa, commenting on the incident, issued a stern warning to the public.
“We urge everyone to exercise caution when it comes to water bodies,” he said.
“Areas with sloping terrain should also be avoided, as they can be particularly hazardous and don’t get into water bodies when you are not a good swimmer,” he added.
