MASVINGO-The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training will on July 24, 2026 host the Provincial Day of the African Child commemorations at Hlanganani High School in Ward 4, Chiredzi East.
The provincial commemorations follow the national launch by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on July 8 during the induction of Junior Parliamentarians in Harare.

Speaking to The Midweek Watch, the Ministry’s Deputy Director, June Mbizvo said learners from schools across the province’s seven districts are expected to converge for the event.
Mbizvo said learners will receive a message from the Junior Speaker of Parliament Marley Tarirana.
This year’s commemorations will be held under the theme, “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa.”
Mbizvo said the theme highlights the importance of ensuring that every child has access to safe water, proper sanitation and hygiene services which are essential for children’s health, dignity and education.
“The theme calls on all stakeholders to prioritise universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene for every child. Access to these basic services is critical for protecting children’s health, promoting their well-being and creating a conducive environment for learning and development,” he said.
Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira is expected to officiate as the guest of honour.
The programme will feature awareness talks, drama performances, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) education, a child rights forum as well as games and competitions aimed at promoting children’s welfare and raising awareness of children’s rights.
