Chipinge woman kills self over abuse of children

Chipinge – Patience Mutsvairo (34) from Maoneke Village under Chief Mutema in Chipinge died on December 15, 2024, after consuming a poisonous plant protesting against her mother’s alleged abuse of her children.

The ZRP confirmed that, Patience had a misunderstanding with her mother, Jenifer Dzambo (57) over the treatment of her three children she had from her collapsed marriage. Patience later went to a nearby field and returned after a few minutes, informing her mother that she had consumed an unknown plant she found in the field.

In an attempt to neutralize the poison, Patience’s mother gave her fresh milk to drink. However, when Prayer Zvidzahove, a 39-year-old man, arrived at the homestead around 1400hrs, he found Patience unresponsive and called her mother, who later discovered that she was dead.

The matter was reported at Middle Sabi police station, who attended the scene and ferried the body to Birchenough Bridge Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

Deputy Manicaland Province Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to be cautious when handling unknown substances.

“We urge members of the public to exercise extreme caution when handling unknown substances, and to seek medical attention immediately if they suspect poisoning,” said Chinyoka.
