GWERU-Gweru based presidential candidate, Trust Chikohora  of Zimbabwe Coalition for Peace and Development (ZCPD) party who garnered 10 230 votes (0.2%) in last week’s elections has accepted defeat and promised to support President Mnangagwa.

In a message to his supporters and the nation, Chikohora recognized the will of the people and acknowledged the victory of ZANU PF.

“ZCPD accepts the results of the 2023 harmonised elections announced by ZEC as an expression of the will of the people of Zimbabwe at this point in time, We take this opportunity to congratulate President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF on their victory and we wish them well as they govern this country in the next 5 years”, Chikohora said.

He expressed his gratitude to his loyal supporters who had rallied behind him, emphasizing that their efforts and passion were not in vain. Trust reminded them that democracy is about respecting the choices made by the majority, and he encouraged his followers to remain united and work towards a better Zimbabwe.

“To our members and supporters, we thank you for the votes that we managed to get in this short space of time after our formation. This is only the beginning – we will reflect, analyse, strategise and we will go again,” Chikohora added.

“Zimbabwe is experiencing multiple socio-economic challenges which have been with us for many years now. These challenges seem insurmountable because we have become a deeply polarised society. We believe that these challenges will only be solved sustainably if we come together as Zimbabweans to find each other and build our country together as a united people”, he added

He pledged to set aside partisan differences and extend a hand of cooperation and collaboration to the elected government. Chikohora acknowledged that the challenges faced by Zimbabwe are  immense, and the best way forward is to work together for the common good.

ZCPD was formed in March this year and in 2018 he was a member of the Political Actors Dialogue as head of economic cluster where he benefited from the twin cabs from Government.
