MASVINGO-Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs president and Pan African Parliament boss, Chief Fortune Charumbira regrets alleged sexual moves he made to his niece.
In chats in our possession Chief Charumbira told the father (name withheld to protect the victim) of his female victim that he regrets what he did and pleads to meet him to iron out the matter after the father demanded his comment over the audio which has gone viral.
In the audio which was recorded by the victim, Chief Charumbira is recorded pleading for a kiss from his niece for over 16 minutes.
“I need your comment on your audio by tomorrow morning. I am not a predator but a father who protects his children. If your own daughter is not safe in your own hands it means everyone else is not safe before you. Are you not ashamed Fortune.?” wrote the father to Chief Charumbira on April 9, 2023.
“Manheru Sipambi. I will listen to the audio tomorrow morning nokuti I am with 4 other people now. Will revert to you and seek to meet with you as you deem fit,” replied Chief Charumbira.
The following day Chief Charumbira sent another message to the father, “Mangwanani Shumba. Even before I opened the audio I heard from (name withheld) who had heard from (name withheld).
“I like your spirit. Let us maintain the constructive approach. Let’s build and not destroy the good spirit. You sent me the audio to listen and respond. Nothing is better than that. Although I would have suggested not sharing the audio before engaging with me.
“I will not be defensive. I will be open and seek to mend. Please take your comfort to meet and get the confused circumstances. Clear confusion and mixed up identity. Until now. Cool down. Ngatisangane tiri two. You may choose to understand my IGNORANCE at the time. I regret it. Ndiri Masvingo until Wednesday evening,” wrote Chief Charumbira to the father.
On April 15 the woman went on to report an indecent assault case against Chief Charumbira at Masvingo Central, but the matter will be investigated by Harare Police since he allegedly committed the offence in the capital.
The niece, a teacher at one of the top schools in Masvingo Province alleges that Chief Charumbira kissed, fondled her breasts and touched her privates without her consent on March 31 in Harare at a top hotel.
