Chicky Mwenezi mango thief in attempted murder

MWENEZI-A violent alleged mango thief nearly killed a man he accused of spreading information that he was in the habit of stealing the sweet fruit.

Ian Shumba (32) from Mangwawu Village under Chief Mawarire stoned on the chest and stabbed in the neck Tapiwa Chineka (42) of Mahachi Village in Chief Mawarire area on Christmas eve at around 5am at Tagarira Business Centre.

As Chineka was going home Shumba approached him and started accusing him of spreading information that he was stealing mangoes from the neighborhood.

Shumba picked a stone and struck Chineka on the chest, drew a knife from his trousers’ pocket and stabbed the complainant in the neck who started bleeding.

Shumba fled from the scene and well wishers took Chineka to Neshuro Hospital where he is admitted and his condition is stable.

Masvingo deputy provincial community relations and liaison officer Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu said the police are hunting for Shumba and appealed to the public for information that may lead to his arrest in connection with attempted murder.

Patinyu also urged the public to desist from resorting to violence to resolve their differences and to seek mediation from elders or the police.
