Gutu- In the heart Gutu District, an inspiring initiative is gaining momentum not just in the world of cycling but in faith, community and a commitment to improving maternal and infant healthcare.

Brecore Cycling Club, founded by Brenda Chabvundura, is riding toward a cause that goes far beyond sport, supporting Gutu Mission Hospital and its vital healthcare services.

For Brenda, the creation of Brecore Cycling Club is a deeply personal endeavor.

As the founder of Brecha Cycling Club in Harare and the chairman of the soon-to-be-launched Brecore Cycling Club, his vision extends well beyond cycling’s thrill.

“Our focus is on Gutu because the hospital is not just a healthcare facility, it’s a lifeline for over 250,000 people, especially mothers and infants,” he explains.

Gutu Mission Hospital serves as a beacon of hope particularly in maternal healthcare. Its maternity wing is the busiest in the district, managing one third of in hospital deliveries.

Brenda’s decision to focus the club’s efforts on supporting the hospital stems from its pivotal role in the community.

“It’s heartbreaking that so many mothers and babies rely on this facility but it is severely under-resourced,” Brenda says.

“We want to change that. Through cycling, we aim to raise funds for essential equipment, infrastructure upgrades and staff training, all of which will help develop Gutu Mission Hospital into a comprehensive obstetric emergency facility.”

Brecore Cycling Club has partnered with EMAS Canada, a Christian medical non-profit with a long history of supporting Gutu Mission Hospital. EMAS Canada has been at the forefront of organizing the “Ride for Gutu Mission Hospital” cycling event which aims to raise crucial funds for the hospital.

Brecore Cycling Club joined forces with EMAS Canada to continue this mission, bringing together athletes and community members for a cause that goes beyond sport.

“We are working closely with EMAS Canada, whose passion for healthcare aligns perfectly with our mission,” Brenda shares.

“By hosting cycling events, we are helping fund medical equipment, support staff training and ensure that Gutu Mission Hospital continues to serve the people who depend on it most.”

The upcoming “Ride for Gutu Mission Hospital” is set for May 1 with the starting point at Gutu Mission Hospital. Registration for the race is pegged at US$10, with proceeds going towards supporting the hospital’s healthcare services.

National cyclist Core Goromondo is a key figure in Brecore Cycling Club’s efforts.

Originally from Gutu, Core’s involvement is driven not only by his passion for cycling but by a deep personal connection to the cause. His participation in the 2025 “Ride for Gutu Mission Hospital” was particularly memorable as he raced alongside his father, Mr. J Goromondo (Madzibaba Lazaro), with support from the local church.

Brenda reflects on Core’s contribution with admiration.

“Core’s involvement in the 2025 ride deeply touched everyone, especially in his hometown. His performance, alongside the support from his family and church, showed just how connected he is to the cause. For him, it’s not just about winning races; it’s about using his platform to influence positive change in his community.”

For Brenda, honoring Core for his dedication in his hometown was a natural choice. “He’s a national athlete but he’s from Gutu. His success and willingness to give back embody everything Brecore Cycling Club stands for.”

A defining aspect of both Brecore Cycling Club and its partner, EMAS Canada is their shared Christian values. EMAS Canada has long been involved in faith driven healthcare initiatives and Brecore Cycling Club is no exception.

For Brenda, the club’s mission goes beyond raising funds for the hospital, it’s about spreading the gospel through their actions.

“We are a faith-driven club,” Brenda says.

“Our motto, ‘Cycling with Soul,’ reflects our belief that cycling isn’t just about fitness or sport, it’s about honoring God through our work. By partnering with EMAS Canada and supporting Gutu Mission Hospital, we are fulfilling our calling to serve others and spread the good news.”

Brecore Cycling Club’s impact reaches far beyond cycling. Their commitment is changing lives, making a difference for those who depend on Gutu Mission Hospital while fostering a sense of community and purpose.

Brenda Chabvundura’s vision for Brecore Cycling Club continues to inspire. By blending the power of sport with faith, they are driving meaningful change in Gutu, cycling toward a brighter, healthier future for the community.
