MASVINGO-Under fire Masvingo United Football Club has appointed experienced coach Patrick Mandizha as its new head coach with immediate effect as the club looks to strengthen its technical department ahead of the second half of the season.
Mandizha, who holds a CAF B Coaching Licence, brings a wealth of top-flight coaching experience.
He previously served as head coach of Manica Diamonds FC and as assistant coach at FC Platinum under veteran coach Norman Mapeza, where he was part of the technical team that won multiple PSL titles. He also had a stint as assistant coach at Triangle United FC.
The club said Mandizha is renowned for his tactical discipline, player development and ability to build competitive teams under pressure, qualities it believes will help drive Masvingo United FC towards its long-term objectives.
In a telephone interview with The Midweek Watch, club Secretary General Sunganai Shonhai said the appointment reflects the club’s ambition to build a competitive side capable of challenging for honours.
“We are delighted to welcome Coach Patrick Mandizha to Masvingo United Football Club. He is an experienced coach with an impressive track record, and we believe he has the qualities to take the team to the next level. We urge our supporters to rally behind him and the players as we work together to achieve our goals,” said Shonhai.
Shonhai said, Mandizha would be given the freedom to assemble his own technical team including appointing assistant coaches of his choice.
“The new head coach will choose his assistants. He has the mandate to build the technical team he feels can help him achieve the club’s objectives,” he said.
He added that assistant coach George Magariro has resigned from his position.
Sources told The Midweek Watch newspaper said Magariro has reportedly joined Deportivo La Murambinda as Assistant Coach.
Mandizha is expected to officially begin his duties with the team tomorrow Thursday July 23, when he will be introduced to the players at Mucheke High School Grounds.
