Blind entrepreneur to showcase innovation at Disability Expo

MASVINGO-As Zimbabwe prepares for the 2026 Disability Expo to be held at Mucheke Stadium from 24 to 26 June, one disability-owned enterprise is poised to demonstrate how entrepreneurship can transform lives, challenge stereotypes, and drive economic inclusion.

Among the exhibitors expected to make a significant impact at the Expo is Shifting Disability Detergents, a growing detergent manufacturing enterprise founded and led by visually impaired entrepreneur Barbra Morosi.

The company has become a powerful example of resilience, innovation, and the untapped economic potential that exists among persons with disabilities.

The Disability Expo, which will bring together government ministries, disability organisations, development partners, private sector players, innovators, and members of the public, seeks to promote inclusion, accessibility, innovation, and economic empowerment.

For Morosi, the event presents an opportunity not only to market products but also to tell a story of determination and possibility.

“Many people still associate disability with dependency, yet countless persons with disabilities are creating businesses, generating income, and contributing to national development,” said Morosi.

“Shifting Disability Detergents was established to prove that visual impairment is not a barrier to entrepreneurship.”

Founded with a vision of creating quality household cleaning products while advancing disability empowerment, Shifting Disability Detergents has steadily built a reputation for producing effective and affordable detergents for homes, institutions, and businesses. Beyond its commercial activities, the enterprise represents a broader movement towards economic participation and self-reliance among persons with disabilities.

Morosi believes the upcoming Expo will serve as a catalyst for changing perceptions and opening doors for disability-owned enterprises.

“The Disability Expo is a platform where people can see ability instead of disability,” she said.

“Visitors will have an opportunity to interact directly with entrepreneurs, innovators, and professionals with disabilities who are making meaningful contributions to society.”

The company plans to showcase its range of detergent products at the exhibition while engaging potential customers, distributors, investors, and strategic partners. Morosi hopes that increased visibility will not only grow the business but also inspire other persons with disabilities to pursue entrepreneurship.

“Every bottle of detergent we produce tells a story of perseverance, innovation, and empowerment,” she said.

“Our goal is to build a sustainable enterprise that creates opportunities for others while demonstrating that disability inclusion makes economic sense.”

Advocates say disability-owned businesses remain an important yet often overlooked component of Zimbabwe’s economy.

Events such as the Disability Expo provide a valuable platform for recognising achievements, promoting inclusive business practices, and encouraging investment in disability-led enterprises.

As anticipation builds for the three-day event, Shifting Disability Detergents stands ready to showcase not only its products but also a compelling message: that disability is not inability, and that with opportunity, support, and determination, persons with disabilities can become successful entrepreneurs and agents of change.

Members of the public, corporate organisations, government institutions, and development partners are encouraged to visit the Shifting Disability Detergents exhibition stand at Mucheke Stadium and witness firsthand how disability-led innovation is contributing to Zimbabwe’s inclusive economic future.

The 2026 Disability Expo runs from 24 to 26 June at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo.
