Bikita man found dead in suspected drug abuse

BIKITA- An unidentified man was found dead in unclear circumstances at Chinhamo Business Centre in Bikita this morning with sources suspecting drug overdose.

Deputy Masvingo Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu said he was yet to receive the report.

Chief Marozva born Mutindi Mutindi confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch in a telephone interview.

He said the man in his mid thirties is suspected to have died from drug abuse.

“Yes it’s true, the man is suspected to have died from excessive use of mutoriro. However, police are yet to establish the exact cause of the death.

“His body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital mortuary for a postmortem an hour ago,” he said.

The rise in cases where people are dealing in dangerous drugs is blamed for the surge in cases of drug-induced mental illnesses and sudden deaths.

Most of the people developing mental illnesses from the drug abuse are not in hospital or being treated as outpatients, but are seen roaming the streets while others are behaving abnormally at shopping centres.

In most communities, young boys and girls who abuse the dangerous drugs have changed their behaviour, but remain part of the community until the illness becomes more pronounced.

They are only taken to psychiatric units when they turn violent, show suicidal tendencies or provoke others.
