What began as a casual beer-drinking spree at Rainbowend Farm in Gadzema, Chinhoyi turned into a brutal murder scene on 26 July, Kudakwashe Kandeya (20) lost his life in a savage attack allegedly carried out by five men, including three who are now in police custody.
According to ZRP National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrest of Peter Jaungeti (34), Amidu Tembo (31), and Steven Katirange (36), while three other suspects Itayi Urayayi (21), Alias Chomi, and Shame Kondo remain on the run.
The group is accused of fatally assaulting Kandeya with a hoe, a log, and a sjambok following a heated argument during the drinking session.
The confrontation escalated rapidly, with all five reportedly taking turns to beat the young man, the viciousness of the attack left no chance for survival Kandeya died on the spot.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for Chomi and Kondo, meanwhile, the three arrested suspects await their day in court as police build a case that reflects the dangers of unchecked violence during social gatherings.
Police have urged the public to report any information that may lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects, warning that such acts of mob justice will not go unpunished.
