…community pleads for water

Masvingo-Gutu East Constituency, Zanu PF aspiring candidate, Dr Benjamin Ganyiwa has donated 25 grinding mills at various business centres to assist residents who were travelling long distances to access the service.
The first batch of 20 grinding mills was dispatched late last year and the other 5 are set to be distributed soon making a total of 30 grinding mills, Dr Ganyiwa told The Midweek Watch. Some of the areas which are expected to benefit from this donation include, Bhasera, Munyikwa and Mazura as they have been travelling distances of more than 15km to the nearest grinding mill.
Dr Ganyiwa said women and children were the most affected by lack of grinding mills as they had travel long distances, which was not safe for them as they risked being robbed, raped and losing time for other things at home.
“The country is working towards achieving Vision 2030 and more focus must be directed to serious issues such as farming and all other activities than grinding mealie meal.
“I also support President Mnangagwa’s idea of leaving no one behind, so as leaders in the communities we must also take along the rural community in economic development.
“I have also come to realize that sport is one of the fundamental activities in our communities. It takes away our children from drugs and other unholy activities.
“In this regard, we’re donating football kits to keep sports alive in the rural areas,” he said.
Chief Chimombe, born Hilder Rutsate Chimombe expressed gratitude towards the donation saying the community had been relieved.
“We used to walk about 10 to 15 kilometers, mainly to Bhasera Growth Point to access the nearest grinding mill.
“As women we feel relieved that now we walk just a few miles to a grinding mill,” Chief Chimombe.
Ward 39 ,Councilor Ndinatse Madzadzure however appealed to the leadership to help with boreholes as water was still a crisis in Gutu rural.
“We are grateful for the developmental initiatives which have been spearheaded by Dr Ganyiwa in our area.
“I want to appeal to leadership for water boreholes, particulary in my area as water is still a challenge to many households.” Said Ndinatse.
Ganyiwa is expected to tussle it out against other aspiring candidates like veteran politician, Christopher Chibhamu in the Zanu PF primary elections to take over from long serving legislator for the area Berta Chikwama, a decorated war veteran.
