BUHERA -TRAGEDY hit the Samachacha family when their 12 year old son Asher drowned while swimming in a pond at Gora Village under Chief Nerutanga in Buhera on March 1, at around 2pm.
On the fateful day Asher who is from Chamisa Village under Chief Nerutanga drove his uncle, Stephen Chigumbu (76)’s goats for pastures together with other boys aged 12, 14 and 10, all from the same village.
The four decided to go and swim at a pond in Gora Village, but Asher failed to swim and drowned.
One of the boys went on to report the matter to Asher’s uncle, Chigumbu while the other two boys retrieved his now lifeless body from the pond.
Chigumbu reported the matter to Buhera Police Station and the body was taken Murambinda Hospital for a postmortem.
Manicaland Province police acting spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka issued a warning against children playing around water especially during this rainy season which was characterized by severe flooding.
