Gweru- A tragic accident has claimed the life of an experienced Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) pilot, according to a statement from Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) Commander General Valerio Sibanda.

The incident occurred during a routine sortie when an AFZ-Y7 fighter aircraft crashed in the Wazheri general area along the Gweru-Mvuma Road.
The pilot, Squadron Leader (Retired) Ritswanetsi Vuyo Ncube, died in the crash.
In his message, General Sibanda expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the “proficient and highly experienced pilot.”
He said the ZDF’s “thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased pilot” and extended his “deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased for this sad loss.”
Ncube had rejoined the AFZ from retirement, driven by his “passion for flying and dedication to serve his nation.”
At the time of the accident, he was training young fighter pilots at the Josiah Tungamirai Air Force Base.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the accident, the statement said.
