ZVISHAVANE- Agric 24 in collaboration with Prime Agro and Syngenta are set host a cucurbit training workshop on July 26, 2023 at Tafa Farm in Zvishavane.
This has been confirmed to Midweek Watch by Selina Hatidani Sakupwanya Field promoter in Midlands for Syngenta.
The event is meant to provide education and information to farmers regarding cucurbit farming, which specifically involves the cultivation of plants belonging to the cucurbit family.
The primary focus of the event revolves around cucumbers and watermelons, as these are the crops being cultivated at Tafa Farm.
The attendees will gain insights into various resources, services, and support available to them in their farming endeavors.
The second part of the workshop will be dedicated to theory farming and practical demonstrations.
The farmers in attendance will be taken to the farm where they will be shown how to implement the techniques and practices that were discussed during the theory farming session. This hands-on approach will allow the farmers to gain a better understanding of the concepts and apply them effectively in their own farms.
There will be a practical demonstration which will guide the farmers on various aspects of farming, such as determining the correct spacing between plants, applying the right amount of fertilizer and manure, and understanding the optimal time for planting.
Sakupwanya emphasized the importance of planting watermelon at the right time.
“This workshop is meant to equip farmers with knowledge on cucurbit plants for example the date to plant watermelon is crucial; if planted late, they will be affected by the summer rains”, she said.
