A savage fight erupted in Gwitima village, under Chief Chivi, has left Doubt Matimba (33) dead and Stanford Tagarira (26) hospitalised, on the night following a fierce dispute for vomiting on the counter at Mashayamanda Bar.
According to ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, Matimba who heavily intoxicated, vomited onto the counter, sparking a heated argument with the bartender, Stanford Tagarira on May 15.
In a fit of rage, Matimba pulled out a flick knife and stabbed the bartender in the right shoulder before fleeing into the darkness.
Tafadzwa Tagarira, the brother of the bartender, witnessed the attack and, along with Brighton Chihwava and they gave a chase.
Upon catching up with Matimba, a struggle ensued, during which Tagarira pulled out a kitchen knife from his sling bag and stabbed Matimba in the left breast.
Matimba succumbed to his injuries and was found dead the following morning.
The aftermath of the incident saw Tagarira arrested by ZRP Chivi, while the bartender received treatment and was discharged in stable condition.
Inspector Dhewa emphasized the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and that people must not carry dangerous weapons.
