Millions of young generation who did not participate in the liberation struggle have been bombarded with false history and propaganda. The history as written and narrated by Zanu PF mouthpieces is that those at the National Heroes Chikomo and hundreds who were armed are the true heroes of our liberation struggle.
The true history if to be told by patriotic Zimbabweans will record the first line of heroes as the povo who were unarmed. These povo are the very people who liberated Zimbabwe. The povo contributed more to the liberation struggle than both Nationalist leaders and the armed vanamukoma.
The povo although being unarmed they fought great battles against the white regime. They were at the forefront of the sabotage war. The economy of the Rhodesian government was pinned on agriculture. The povo risked and stole thousands of white farmers’ cattle. The effects were great and devastating. The armed vanamukoma never stole the white farmers cattle it was the duty of the povo.
The povo knew that the whites supremacy was on mobility. The armed vanamukoma had no transport. In this regards the whites were effective in launching attacks .The povo destroyed bridges and blocked roads with huge trees. The Rhodesian army found it very difficult to travel .This was a great effective fight by the povo. Vanamukoma were never involved in these strategic battles.
The povo were the natural surveillance cameras for vanamukoma. The duty was very risky but the povo had no options. They wanted to win the war .They would venture into Rhodesian soldiers camping sites to get information of the enemy.
Vanamukoma were fed and dressed by the povo. One of the greatest battles which the povo fought was to make sure vanamukoma had food. Huku and mbudzi dzakapera all in a bid to win against the cruel Rhodesian regime.
“Iwe neni tine basa rokusunungura Zimbabwe!” was pivotal slogan during the liberation struggle. The slogan had a call for each and everyone to participate in the war. It is only now that these selfish Zanu PF leaders are only considering the armed vanamukoma and leaders as heroes.
The Zanu PF leaders when considering sharing wealth they forget about the povo. Think of the War Veterans gratitude, land, War compensation fund etc it is all about the former armed vanamukoma and leaders. The povo are now nowhere in the Zanu PF agenda.
