GWERU-Legal practitioners in the Midlands Province have hailed the opening of office of the Master of High Court in Gweru, as a progressive move set to improve the quality of justice.

The opening came at a time when lawyers in the Province used to travel to Masvingo, Bulawayo or Harare to access the Master of High Court services.

Prominent human rights lawyer, Esau Mandipa commended the milestone development saying it will quicken litigants’ access to justice.

“The coming of Master of the High Court in Gweru is a positive development and was long overdue. There is no longer need to travel to Masvingo or Bulawayo as people can still file in Gweru and it also serve the costs by bringing justice to the people,” he said.

Another local lawyer, Abiata Mugari applauds decentralization of the Masters’ office to ensure efficiency in processing estates.

“It’s a good thing and makes things easier for those with relatives who would have died and left properties as their estates will be registered on time and at convenience. It will also cut costs as there will be no need for us to pay correspondence fees,” she said.

Today the Master of High Court of Zimbabwe opened it’s offices to the public in Gweru in an effort to  ensure  ease access to justice.

The Office of the Master of High Court provides services which include the registration and administration of deceased estate, insolvent estates and companies under corporate rescue.

Besides registration, the office also does safe keeping of wills, administration and supervision of funds held in the guardian’s fund.

Recently, Gweru City Council allocated stands to the Judicial Service Commission for the construction of a High Court near Fairmile Hotel and another Magistrate Court in Mkoba high density.
