CHIVI-HOUSE OF ASSMBLY member for Chivi North, Godfrey Huruva Mukungunugwa aka Chibaba Chedevelopment was one of the high profile figures who paid their last respects to veteran educationist and philanthropist, Jephias Fanie Maune.

The late Jephias Fanie Maune.

Maune was laid to rest last Saturday at his homestead in Chitowa Chipamha area under Chief Madyangove.

He was 84.

“We are here to lay to rest one of the towering figures from our community, a veteran teacher where many in Chivi passed through his capable hands.

“During his illustrious career as a teacher which spanned over five decades VaMaune helped a lot of people and we are very grateful for his contribution to the community. He was an exemplary in all facets of life,” said Chibaba on the sidelines of the funeral.

The late Maune flanked by some of his grandchildren.

Maune’s third born son, Maxwell Maune who is the director of Chitoz (Chitova) Holdings in Harare told The Midweek Watch that his father died at home on March 20 after battling diabetes for a long time.

“We lost a father figure and a pillar of the family who loved education which he said was the gateway to success in life.

“All his life was about education as he knew no other profession except teaching.

“He made sure that he led by example by ensuring that all his children go to school and now most of them are doing well with some being managers at big companies in south Africa.

“He was a philanthropist of note as he would teach children from the locality for free even after he retired from active service. He would lend money for school fees to a lot of less privileged families as long as it was meant for education of children, he didn’t care,” said Maxwell.

Maune was born in Mberengwa and went to Morgenster Teachers College for his professional training and started teaching in 1966 at Jenya Primary school in Chivi.

He briefly went to Murewa from 1975 to 1976 and taught at Chemhoro Primary before coming back home to Gondo Primary in Chivi from 1977 to 2009 when he retired from Government.

He was a devoted Christian and a member of the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe.

Maune’s massive funeral was attended by hundreds of people from across Chivi and beyond mainly composed his former workmates, students, retired and serving teachers as well as fellow church mates who spoke glowingly about him

They described him as an icon and role model to both the young and elderly in the community.

Maune is survived by six boys and two girls, several grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
