HARARE-The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council’s 2023 Grade 7 results have been released with an improved pass rate of 45.57% compared to 40.09% last year.
ZIMSEC said students can access the results on its portal beginning today while school heads will only be able to collect the results from their regional offices from Monday.
ZIMSEC chairperson PRofessor Eddie Mwenje said 372 603 candidates sat for one to six subjects during the 2023 Grade 7 examinations as compared to 343 169 candidates who sat for the same examinations in 2022, showing a 7.89% increase in candidature.
“The 2023 Grade 7 examinations session has recorded a national pass rate of 45.57%. This is an increase of 5.48% in candidates’ performance from last year’s pass rate of 40.09%.”
Prof Mwenje attributed the improved pass rate to the return of the “normal school calendar” after the disruptions caused by the COVID-19, and also various interventions by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in terms of teaching and learning.
