GOKWE–A 55-year-old man from Gokwe was brutally murdered after a gang of six men, allegedly seeking revenge on his son, stormed his homestead and attacked him, police confirmed on Monday.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the deceased, identified as Mardon Dube of Kashiri Village under Chief Chireya, died after he was severely assaulted and stabbed on Sunday.
According to police, the tragedy followed an altercation the previous day when Dube’s son, James Dube, fought with the suspects at Chidoma Business Centre.
During the scuffle, James allegedly stabbed one of the men on the hand with a knife before fleeing.
“The following day, the six suspects went to James Dube’s home in search of him. Upon spotting them, James ran away, leaving his father behind. The gang then turned on Mardon Dube, taking turns to assault and stab him until he lost consciousness. He died while being rushed to hospital,” said Mahoko.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the six suspects, identified as Oliver Madzivazvido, Felix Madzivazvido, Jealous Madzivazvido, Prince Ngondi, Tinashe Shonhiwa and Tafadzwa Shonhiwa, all of Madzivazvido Village under Chief Chireya.
Insp Mahoko appealed to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“We urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of these suspects to report to the nearest police station,” he said.
