Five family members who tragically died through suffocation in a hut while warming themselves with a mbaura have received state assisted funerals.

The five, Jeremiah Simango 42, Jonh Ncube 57, Nigel Ncube 26, Denzel Simango 15, and Jedire Simango 9 who died in Mabasa Village under Chief Masunda were laid to rest today.
A postmortem report confirmed that the five close family members succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning from a mbaura/brazier used for warmth while sleeping on Sunday night.

Zvishavane District Development Coordinator Darlington Chokera told The Midweek Watch that the Government engaged Doves Funeral Services to facilitate the burial and provided five bags of grain to aid the grieving family.

Community members and stakeholders have come forward in solidarity. A local businessman donated a beast for meat, while Errymaple Group of Schools and Zebras Football Club contributed foodstuffs. Chief Masunda helped coordinate further assistance, and the Zvishavane MP also provided a beast for the funeral.

Jeremiah and Jedire were buried in Guduza Village under Chief Shiku while Denzel was laid to rest in Gutu.
John and Nigel were laid to rest in Shurugwi.
