ZVISHAVANE- Four Platinum Queens players have been called up to play for the national team aka Gems in the forthcoming Netball World Cup to be held in South Africa in July.
The quartet are Claris Kwaramba, Priscilla Ndlovu, Elizabeth Mushore and Progress Moyo.
The quartet’s call up was confirmed by their coach Simbarashe Mlambo who expressed happiness about the development and added tah he hopes more players from his stable will make it into the national team in future.
Their calling was triggered by the team’s performance in the Premier Netball League as they top the log standings with 34 points from 18 matches played so far.
They have only lost one game this season.
Zimbabwe which is bankrolled by NedBank will compete in Group A alongside powerhouse and number one ranked Australia, Tonga and Fiji.
Vitality Netball World Cup is scheduled for Cape town, South Africa, from 28 July to 6 August and this will be the Gems’ successive appearance at the global netball showcase following their participation at the last edition held in Liverpool, UK, in 2019.
Zimbabwe finished a commendable eighth on their maiden appearance behind Uganda (7), Malawi (6) and South Africa (4) as Africa gave a good account of themselves. New Zealand won the Cup, while Australia and England finished second and third, respectively.
