The Safe Summer Sport Festival course in Masvingo Province was meant to promote a secure and supportive environment for athletes.

This annual event, sponsored by ZOC, aims to create a safe space for athletes to participate in sport to their full potential without accidents or violence.

Internationally accredited sport safeguarding officer Tawanda Sithole told The Midweek Watch that, “the goal of the festival is to ensure athletes feel physically and emotionally secure, and to achieve this, 30 officials were trained today on safe sport practices.”

The workshop covered essential topics such as match fixing, sports codes, and competition manipulation, where athletes cheat by losing intentionally or not performing to their best.

“In addition these are friendly matches promoting safe sport and interaction therefore there is no need for emotions when we hold the event on Friday,” said Masvingo Province Sport Director, Frederick Matavikwa.

There will be a teacher competition of 200m run with prizes to be won sponsored by Matavikwa.

The festival’s focus on safety and inclusivity aligns with global efforts to promote safety in sports.
