GOKWE-Three people died on the spot while five others escaped death with varying injuries in a head-on-collision involving a Mercedes Benz and a Hino truck along Kwekwe- Gokwe Road.
The horrific accident occurred yesterday at around 7pm.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that the Mercedes Benz driving towards Kwekwe with six people on board overtook a truck, and in the process, encroached into the opposite lane where it collided with the Hino truck driven by Saniwel Nhete.
“As a result, the two motor vehicles sustained severe damages, with three people from the Benz including the driver dying on the spot,” said Insp Mahoko.
Mahoko said the deceased’s bodies were taken to Gokwe South District Hospital mortuary, whilst the five injured were rushed to the same hospital for treatment.
Insp Mahoko urged motorists to drive at safe speeds and exercise extra caution as it three times more dangerous to drive at night.
