2 men in soup for killing thief

The Zimbabwe Republic Police are investigating a gruesome murder case, after a suspected thief was allegedly assaulted by two suspects, resulting in his death in Chikanga 2, Mutare.

Manicaland Provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed to The Midweek Watch that the incident happened on March 12 at around 7am when Lincoln Kavhu (22) of Chikanga 2 reported the theft of his car keys and a cellphone at ZRP Chikanga.

 Following local inquiries, Ryan Zindi of Kuwadzana 5 a recent prison release was implicated.

“Kavhu enlisted the help of Dilan Mudiwa, 26, of New Chisamba, sakubva, and Athell Mukondwo, 23, of New Dangare, Sakubva to apprehend Zindi. The two accused allegedly assaulted the now deceased using a hoe handle while at the informant’s house and moved around Chikanga 2 with him looking for the stolen items but nothing was recovered,” he said

On March 14, Kavhu and the two accused persons took Zindi to ZRP Chikanga, where the now deceased was rushed to Victoria Chitepo provincial hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The police have since recovered the hoe handle used in the assault and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Zindi’s death.

Ass Insp Chinyoka has urged members of the public not to take the law into their hands.
