The Zimbabwe Zhongxin Chrome Smelting plant in Mashava, Masvingo province, is experiencing remarkable growth in ferrochrome production, yielding 1,500 tonnes monthly.

Mashava located chrome smelting plant.

The Midweek Watch confirmed that this achievement has created over 200 permanent jobs, significantly contributing to the region’s socio-economic development.

Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira praised the plant as a boon for local small-scale miners, fostering socio-economic growth and empowering marginalized groups.

Minister Chadzamira was speaking to delegates during the ZIMCODD organised media workshop to assess steps being taken by the province to get to US$8b gross domestic product by 2030.

“The project aligns with the government’s vision to grow the province’s GDP to US$8 billion by 2030,” he added.

This US$70 million chrome smelting plant is a result of Chinese investments, demonstrating the country’s growing appeal to foreign investors.
