The whole country knows that the political debate is on President Mnangagwa’s unquenchable power appetite to extend his term of office to 2030. Zanu PF Varakashi are trying to divert attention from constitutional issues to opposition political leaders fights.
The Mnangagwa regime had fooled itself into thinking that they had destroyed the opposition in Zimbabwe. The regime panicked when it saw successful coming together of opposition leaders for the constitutional press conference.
The reaction by the state and Zanu PF loyalists at SAPES offices, Gilbert Bgwende’s house and Bulawayo press conference all pointed to desperation, panic and confusion in the regime. The regime had not expected this “Isaiah 1: 18 Come now let us reason together….19; If you are willing and obedient you shall eat the good of the land 20: but if you refuse and rebel you shall be eaten by the sword…!”
Varakashi have set an agenda to try to derail the constitutional fight by creating fictitious opposition political leaders fights. The opposition members must remain focused. This is not about political popularity but a fight for constitutionalism.
The fights in social media of trying to open old wounds, hatred, mistrust, power struggle and political space isn’t the elephant in the room we are facing right now. The issue is: Should we allow Zanu PF to extend Mnangagwa’s term of office? This is term of dictatorship. This is term of failure. This is an election rigged term. This is an illegal term. Why then should we be allowed to be diverted from the fight against constitution to leadership fights?
We have a patriotic revolutionary obligation to fight against constitution mutilation as a united front. After we have successfully won this fight each ‘waziva kwake waziva kwake!”
We must make sure our fight is not only centred on 2030 agenda but prepare for a “credible, transparent, democratic, free and fair 2028” elections.
This is the time to reshape our fight. We must reach out to civic organisation, churches, war veterans, diaspora and even those in Zanu PF so that the 2030 agenda doesn’t see the light of day. Mnangagwa must resign in 2028 or before. This can only be achieved if we all remain focused on the fight against constitution mutilation and not be diverted to leadership fights.
