MILLICENT HUNGWE

ZAKA-Residents of the sleepy Zaka community were shocked following a horrific incident at Choga Business Centre in Zaka on August 24, which resulted in the untimely death of Edmore Mugwazhi (38).

Mugwazhi was a security guard and was assaulted by two unknown suspects who wanted to continue imbibing after the bar had closed.

Masvingo Province ZRP deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu told The Midweek Watch that the deceased was employed by Samson Chidzuurira at a local bottle store and was about to close the shop at around 8pm when two accused from the same village in Mutimba area, under Chief Ndanga, refused to let him lock up the pleasure centre.

The situation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in the two accused brutally assaulting Mugwazhi, kicking him to the ground before fleeing the scene.

Despite his injuries, Mugwazhi managed to close the bar, but the next day, his condition worsened, prompting his employer to rush him to Musiso Mission Hospital.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was referred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he tragically passed away on August 26.

Patinyu said that the police are currently looking for the two accused, who remain at large urging anyone with information to come forward.

His body is at Masvingo Provincial Hospital awaiting post-mortem.
