ZACC warns public on imposters

Date:

Proliferation of Imposters Impersonating ZACC Investigations Officers Harare – May 25, 2024: The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) wishes to alert officials from government and public entities, private sector and members of the public of an alarming increase in persons impersonating ZACC investigations officers.

Some of these groups are extorting money from companies and individuals under the guise of fines of penalties related to alleged corruption and protection from arrest and prosecution.

The public is implored to immediately report to the Commission or the Zimbabwe Republic Police any person who attempts to extort money from them purporting to be a ZACC official.

The Commission also wishes to distance itself from the operations of the following organisations:

· Crime and Corruption Watchdog Trust

· The Government and Anti-Corruption Trust

· The Global Infrastructure Anti-Corruption Centres Trust · The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Citizens Taskforce

 · National Anti- Corruption Association of Zimbabwe

· Zimbabwe National Anti-Corruption

· Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Unit

· Zimbabwe National Anti-Corruption Individuals from some of these organisations have been moving around purporting to be ZACC officers or Anti-Corruption agencies working with the Commission.

ZACC has no Memorandum of Understanding with these organisations and does not work through any of them.

The Commission however, remains open to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with bonafide Civil Society Organisations involved in anti-corruption advocacy work.

Imposters are warned to desist from extorting money from unsuspecting public and private sector officials as well as private citizens.

Those found impersonating law enforcement officers will be dealt with in terms of the law.

What to Do if Approached by Suspected Imposters:

· Verify immediately the identity of anyone claiming to be from ZACC.
