Young mbira player keeps traditional instrument alive

CHIPINGE -Prince Tinevimbo Tapembera (13) also known as Mactaps, showed his mbira playing prowess at his grandfather’s funeral much to the amusement of mourners as played the traditional instrument with skill and dedication.
Prince’s love affair with the mbira began when he was just five years old, now as a form 1 student at Prince Edward High School in Harare, he continues to nurture his passion, practicing regularly and playing at family gatherings.
His music ambitions are big – he hopes to become a famous mbira player, perform at large events, and study music at university.
Prince’s family is supportive of his dreams, ensuring he balances his music with education.
His mother, Rudo Sukuta, proudly shares his videos on social media, eager to share his talent with the world.
But Prince is not the only talented youngster in the family. His cousin, Lovemore Machingura, also plays the mbira with skill and enthusiasm.
Lovemore, a form 3 student at Hande High School, was trained by his uncle Shingirayi Gwaze and hopes to become as famous as the late Oliver Mtukudzi.
As the two boys played together, their talent and passion for music were evident.
They are a testament to the power of dedication and hard work, and their love for the mbira is a beautiful tribute to their cultural heritage.
