Woman set on fire for refusing to sell beer on credit

SHURUGWI-A-64 year old woman is battling for life at Shurugwi Hospital after she was doused with petrol and set on fire for refusing to give the co-tenant beer on credit.
Evans Chirawo Matagu (38) who is in Police custody had a scuffle with the complainant for refusing to lend him beer on credit at her sheebene.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the gruesome incident that occurred on June 15 at around 2pm at Montdor, Bonsor in Shurugwi.
“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a case of attempted murder where a 64 year old Shurugwi woman was set ablaze by his former co-tenant who doused her with petrol before lighting her with matches,” he said.
Circumstances are that, Matagu went to the victim residence where she operates a sheebene and requested for beer on credit which the complainant turned down sighting that he already owed her money. He got furious and set her on fire,” added Insp Mahoko.
He said the victim was served by other sheebene patrons who managed to put out the fire.
Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public not to resort to violence when in dispute and urged the public to operate legal businesses.
