NYANGA-Melody Shombe(30) of Mukwekwe Village under Chief Saunyama in Nyanga has been arrested for allegedly killing his father in law Cornelius Chikambwe (68) over the ill-treatment of her children.
Chikambwe of Dzapasi Village under Chief Hata in Nyanga succumbed to injuries sustained when he was assaulted by Shombe on August 5 in the morning and he fell on a wooden sofa cracking his ribs in the process.
Shombe accused her father in law of ill-treating her children whenever she was away.
He died on September 16 at his homestead after being in and out of hospital including being admitted at Victoria Chitepo Hospital for an operation on his broken ribs and Bonda Mission Hospital after bleeding through the nose and mouth.
His body was taken to Nyanga Hospital for a postmortem while a report was made to the police by Michelle Chikambwe, daughter to the deceased leading to the arrest of Shombe.
Manicaland Province police deputy spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch and advised members of the public to solve their differences amicably and not to take the law into their own hands in the event of a misunderstanding.
